The parade will start at the parking lot where the Centennial Pool used to be. It will then proceed through town, to the Parkhill area, over to Ecole Frank Ross, then to Crescent Park, down to Canalta, lastly to Tremblay and then finishing at the Swimming Pool.

Families, (who will all be maintaining social distancing and driving in their own vehicles), may start at the starting point or join in as we drive through your neighborhood. We will text/message as we move along. When we get to the swimming pool we can circle the wagons in anticipation of the upcoming season. I hope you can make it for the parade and besides, what else do we have to do on a Friday afternoon now.

You can decorate your vehicle with blue and gold or cut out some seals to decorate the windows!

Seals, 2020, a Strange New Season.

Welcome to the 2020 season of competitive swimming in Dawson Creek and British Columbia.

First, let me say that I miss all of you and as May 1st gets closer, I’m missing you more.

Like everything else, our season is all turned upside down. The Provincial Board has been meeting weekly and our Seals Board has also been planning and getting ready.

What do we know?

-This season will not be like any other.

-Our access to water and indeed the ability to gather in any size of group is restricted by important health rules.

-The 2020 Provincial Championships at UBC has been cancelled. We know that we will not be able to have a gathering of 3000 people in an enclosed space in August.

-We are planning to have our Regional Championships and they will be a celebration of swimming in BC. There will be an electronic ‘provincial swim meet’ in August so swimmers can still compare their times.

-We don’t know when the water season will start. Our swimming pool is committed to opening the pool as soon as possible. It will take two weeks to get the temperature up and then we will be able to have practices that will have to follow health rules for maximum number of people in the building. We are hoping we will be able to get water time in the second half of June or in July.

-We are ready to extend the season to the end of August.

There are a number of things already planned and others in the planning stage.

-The BCSSA will be holding daily exercise programs for our swimmers. These BCSSA led sessions are planned by our Provincial coach, Lee, and will include sessions for different age swimmers, aerobic and strength training as well stretching and flexibility.

-The BCSSA will also be conducting online training for our coaches and our officials.

-Our coaches, Caleb and Nova, are planning further online session for our swimmers. These sessions will be aimed at different age groups and abilities.

While we don’t know when we will be able to get back in the water, the Seals swim club is still committed to starting our season in May, providing activities for our swimmers until the swimming pool opens again, and keeping our club alive, active, and engaged.

To that purpose, the Seals swim club is offering a special registration rate for May 1st with a number of benefits;

1. The provincial board has reduced the provincial registration to only $5.00 for the entire season. That $5.00 will give you insurance for all BCSSA/Seals swim club activities until April 30 of next year. In other words, pay the small fee now and when it goes back up to $35.00 after July 9nth, you’ll have saved $30.00

2. The seals have reduced their registration fee for the dry part of our season to only $20.00. This $20.00 will allow your swimmer to take part in all the dry land activities we have planned and any social activities that are allowed under the Health Minister’s guidelines.

3. Every registered swimmer will receive a special, 2020 Seals t-shirt. I’ve seen the design, very cool, and very unique to this year.

4. Access to special Seals Swim club on-line and when possible, live and in person dryland training conducted by our coaches, Caleb and Nova.

5. Access to the BCSSA provincial, daily training program. This program will be delivered via face-book, zoom, YouTube, and other social media.

6. And most important, you will be supporting your swim club, you will keep engaged with your swim club, and you will be able to prepare for when we can get back into the water.

7. When water becomes available, there will be a water fee for swimmers.

Summer swimming is so much more than training and racing. It is a life-long social experience.

We will be doing everything we can and with your help, will be able to keep our swimming family active and ready to get back into the competitive game when that time comes.

A message from Club President, Trevor O’Dwyer:

Good morning everyone! Just wanted to let everyone know that we held a Zoom meeting as a board last night to discuss a few things including finance, and our season plans.
At present, we have developed a contingency plan to address multiple different scenarios and timelines given the COVID situation.
We have been in contact with The City of DC Parks and Rec, and the BCSSA President (how convenient ). Obviously no one can predict how this goes, but we are preparing for a couple of different scenarios.
Outside of a major change in the COVID situation, we will be able to communicate our next steps April 17. Which will be in response to direction provided by BCSSA.
If and when life gets back to a semblance of normal, we plan to have a season of some sort.
We are excited about the upcoming season and the possibility of supporting many more kids as it looks like we may be one of very few programs ready to go when the dust settles.

We are excited to announce the opportunity for Div 4+ girls to participate in a girls kickboxing session in April. Seats are limited and registration will be required. A link for registration is attached and tickets will be for sale at 8:00 am on Saturday, March.14. Registration will be on a first come first serve basis and is for the entire session of classes. Please read the details below.
There will be five 50 minute sessions for the month of April (1, 8, 15, 22, 29) on Wednesdays 5:30-6:20 pm (arrive 10 minutes early).

Location: True North Fitness group studio (10301 10 St)

This session will be open to female athletes Div4+ and has a limited number of participants. (The space does not allow for more participants.) There are 14 spots available. Spots may be opened to Div 3 athletes if space is available .

Kickboxing classes will include structured drills with participants working with partners striking pads. There will also be body weight (own) exercises incorporating functional movements such as squatting, push ups, crunches. The classes are designed to provide a fun alternative training environment.
